According to PropertyShark\u2019s 2017\u00a0Westchester County a strong contender, followed by Long Island and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propertyshark.com\/Real-Estate-Reports\/2017\/02\/16\/the-most-expensive-zip-codes-in-new-jersey-in-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Jersey<\/a>. Location, as always, will be of paramount importance, with ease of access to New York and mass transit being crucial factors.<\/p>\n<p>And while heading to \u2018burbs for more space and better affordability is not a new trend, the sheer volume of sales happening outside of New York City suggests a thoroughly increased interest on behalf of buyers. <strong>Westchester County<\/strong>, which dominates our top 50 most expensive zip codes in Upstate New York ranking, has seen record numbers of sales in 2016. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elliman.com\/reports-and-guides\/reports\/westchester\/4q-2016-westchester-sales\/13-780\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Douglas Elliman<\/a>, Q4 2016 brought the highest sales volume since 1981 and the lowest inventory in at least 15 years, with all price indicators moving higher as well. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elliman.com\/reports-and-guides\/reports\/putnam-and-dutchess\/4q-2016-putnam-and-dutchess-sales\/32-781\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Putnam County<\/a>, which also grabbed a spot in our top 50 with Cold Spring\u2019s 10515, also reached benchmark numbers, registering the highest sales volume in 20 years, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elliman.com\/reports-and-guides\/reports\/putnam-and-dutchess\/4q-2016-putnam-and-dutchess-sales\/32-781\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dutchess County<\/a> following suit.<\/p>\n<p>Five zip codes in Upstate New York passed the $1 million median sale price threshold in 2016, with Rye\u2019s <strong>10580<\/strong> taking the top spot. In Upstate New York\u2019s <strong>no. 1 most expensive zip code<\/strong> the median sale price in 2016 hit $1,380,000, placing 10580 as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propertyshark.com\/Real-Estate-Reports\/2016\/12\/19\/most-expensive-zip-codes-in-the-u-s-in-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">95<sup>th<\/sup> most expensive zip code in the U.S.<\/a> New York State\u2019s youngest city is one of the most affluent areas in the country and home to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2014\/02\/26\/10-richest-neighborhoods-in-us.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10<sup>th<\/sup> richest neighborhood<\/a> in the nation \u2013 Greenhaven. Rye is also home to the Boston Post Road Historic Landmark District, which includes the childhood home of John Jay \u2013 Founding Father and the first Chief of Justice of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Purchase\u2019s 10577 snagged the title of Upstate New York\u2019s <strong>2<sup>nd<\/sup> most pricy zip <\/strong>with a median sale price of $1,300,000. The wealthy Westchester County hamlet is known for its high standard of living and educational institutions such as the State University of New York at Purchase and Manhattanville College. Purchase is also home to the headquarters of major companies such as PepsiCo., MasterCard and Atlas Air.<\/p>\n<p>Larchmont\u2019s 10583 was 2016\u2019s <strong>3<sup>rd<\/sup> most expensive zip code<\/strong> in Upstate New York with a median sale price of $1,127,500. Considered one of the most desirable places to live in the country, Larchmont is a mere 18 miles northeast of Midtown Manhattan. Larchmont has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/story\/entertainment\/2017\/01\/17\/larchmont-has-starring-role-new-film\/96535866\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a starring role<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt6137408\/?ref_=nv_sr_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eponymous movie<\/a> written and directed by native Ben Zuckert.
