However, the national trend of tight inventories is affecting local buyers at a growing rate.<\/p>\n<p>Anne Arundel County, home to 7 of the state\u2019s 50 most expensive zip codes, has hit its lowest inventory levels in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.capitalgazette.com\/news\/business\/ph-ac-cn-real-estate-0412-20170411-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">5 years<\/a>. And with the newly arrived administration, the luxury market in the Washington, DC, area <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/where-we-live\/wp\/2017\/01\/13\/d-c-areas-most-expensive-homes-sold-in-2016\/?utm_term=.769c229c12f4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has heated up<\/a> significantly.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to pricey real estate in Maryland, Gibson Island\u2019s 21056 tops the charts as the <strong>#1 most expensive zip code<\/strong> in the state. Homes here sell for a median $1.65 million \u2013 pricey enough for Gibson Island to be one of the most expensive zip codes in the country. Nationally, this affluent community ranks as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propertyshark.com\/Real-Estate-Reports\/2016\/12\/19\/most-expensive-zip-codes-in-the-u-s-in-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">52<sup>nd<\/sup> most expensive<\/a>, beating iconic California real estate hotspots such as Cupertino, Carmel by the Sea and Venice.<\/p>\n<p>Located just off the western shore of Chesapeake Bay, \u00a0Gibson Island is one of the most affluent communities nationwide \u2013 and has been for <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.baltimoresun.com\/1993-10-17\/news\/1993290008_1_arundel-county-anne-arundel-southern-anne\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">quite a while<\/a>. While a $1.65 million median home price is out of range for most homebuyers, Gibson Island\u2019s extreme privacy makes it an attractive destination for well-to-do Baltimoreans and District residents looking for a second\/summer home. Located just outside of Washington, DC, this town packs a lot of power thanks to its proximity to the capital. Home to a multitude of medical, military and federal institutions such as Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Bethesda enjoys a robust and steady economy. The city\u2019s private sector is also impressive, with Marriott International, Host Hotels &amp; Resorts and defense giant Lockheed Martin headquartered here.<\/p>\n<p>Unsurprisingly, Maryland\u2019s <strong>3<sup>rd<\/sup> most expensive zip code<\/strong>, 20815, also enjoys close proximity to The District, with just 9 miles to downtown DC. In Chevy Chase\u2019s 20815, homes sell for a median $900,000. <strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Although mainly a residential suburb, shopping and entertainment are easily accessed by Chevy Chase residents in the neighboring Friendship Heights shopping district.
