As expected, the most expensive zips are in well-established neighborhoods like Marina, SoMa or the Financial District, but this doesn\u2019t mean that there weren\u2019t a few surprises along the way.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#1. 94105 is the priciest zip code in San Francisco. <\/strong>Covering the South Beach and Yerba Buena neighborhoods, the zip code fetched a median price of $1,209 per square foot through August 2017. This particular area has definitely earned the first spot, boasting the only zip code with a price tag over $1,200 per square foot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#2. Coming up next\u00a0<\/strong><strong>is San Francisco\u2019s Downtown (94108)<\/strong>, which saw a 5.4% increase year-over-year in prices. The zip code ranks second on our list, achieving a median price of $1,189 per square foot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#3. San Francisco\u2019s Marina (94123) completes the top three<\/strong>. Here, the median price per square foot went down 3.2% year-over-year, resting only slightly below the second-place contender with a median price of $1,188 per square foot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#4. The most surprising zip code in our ranking is<\/strong> <strong>San Francisco\u2019s Financial District (94104).\u00a0<\/strong>The significant growth is largely credited to the 19 renovated condos at the Ritz-Carlton Residence Club. The units went on the market at the end of December 2016, fetching asking prices ranging from $2.3 to $2.7 million, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/sf.curbed.com\/2016\/12\/22\/14061632\/ritz-carlton-residences-san-francisco-renovation\">Curbed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#5. Encompassing\u00a0San Francisco&#8217;s Fifth District, 94114 takes the fifth spot on our list.\u00a0<\/strong>The Castro neighborhood zip code had an increase in prices of nearly 5% year-over-year, and fetched a median price of $1,157 per square foot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Two zip codes (94129 and 94130) didn\u2019t make it into our list<\/strong>, and it\u2019s not hard to see why. The 94129 zip code covers the Presidio of San Francisco, a 1,500-acre park near Presidio Heights, which has no units available for sale and features only rentals. Same goes for 94130\u2014the Treasure Island zip code offers only rentals units.<\/p>\n<h3>Which was the priciest residential sale of the year so far?<\/h3>\n<p>After being labeled by <a href=\"https:\/\/sf.curbed.com\/2017\/4\/4\/15167966\/sf-most-expensive-house-billionaires\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Curbed<\/a> as the most expensive home in San Francisco, the single-family residence at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propertyshark.com\/mason\/Property\/30445919\/2712-Broadway-San-Francisco-CA-94115\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2712 Broadway Street<\/a>\u00a0was sold in June for a total of $38 million. This made the property the most expensive item sold through August 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The property\u2019s Pacific Heights zip code (94115) ranked 11<sup>th <\/sup>on our list. The luxurious home went on the market in April 2017, with an asking price of $40 million. The mansion was marketed by Pacific Union, which closed the deal 10 weeks later. However, the new owner of the property remains a mystery, and although there is plenty of speculation surrounding the subject, nothing has been confirmed, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/realestate\/article\/most-expensive-home-sale-San-Francisco-Broadway-11217174.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SFGate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You can see the full
