While the suburbs are usually known for their family-friendly environment, they are not the preferred living option for Baby Boomers. In fact, according to a study by RENTCaf\u00e9<\/a>, New York challenges sunny locations for the title of the most popular place to live for Baby Boomers. Reviewing the zip codes with the largest Baby Boomer population shows not only that this generation is not tied to the suburbs, but also that 14 of these zip codes are in New York.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a common myth that Baby Boomers are taking over the Orange State year-round, but Florida only has a population of 1.4 million residents who fall into this generation, while New York is home to 3.9 million. Undoubtedly, the warm weather is one of the main factors that attracts Baby Boomers to the southern state, but New York does not lack in providing its residents with all of the necessary amenities to address their needs. Additionally, the state offers senior discounts on everything from transportation, entertainment, social programs and cultural activities.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That being\nsaid, Baby Boomers have access to everything they need and want much more\neasily in the city than in a suburb. Specifically, public transit is easily\naccessible and entertainment activities are always available. So, becoming a\nsenior doesn\u2019t mean that one can\u2019t enjoy life anymore like they used to \u2013 which\nis one reason why city life is becoming more attractive to this age group. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In particular, Brooklyn zip codes 11234 and 11236 are at the top of the list with the most Baby Boomers, at 19,450 and 18,672 residents, respectively. Additionally, zip code 10025 in the Upper West Side of Manhattan is third on the list with 18,277 Baby Boomer residents; this also happens to be the ninth-most expensive zip code in the U.S., with an average monthly rent of $4,646, whereas Brooklyn apartments for rent<\/strong><\/a> are priced between $2,000 and $4,000 per month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While many\nBaby Boomers still choose to be homeowners, many others have picked up on the\ncommon trend among the younger generations \u2013 renting. For this reason, a higher\nnumber of Baby Boomers are embracing the city life as they prefer to do\nwhatever they wish at their own convenience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And, there\u2019s\nno better city that allows them to do so than NYC. While not all choose to live\nin downtown, the increasing number of Baby Boomers in Manhattan, Brooklyn and\nQueens all indicate that a proximity to downtown New York City is becoming a\ncommon choice among this generation. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
