There are three mixed-use historic districts in Downtown Anaheim. The largest of them is Anaheim Colony, home to City Hall, the police headquarters, the chamber of commerce, and the main library. It’s also the location of Mother Colony House, the first home built in the city. Other districts include Platinum Triangle, a relatively new urban redevelopment district with high rises and mixed-use buildings that’s located around Angel Stadium, and Anaheim Resort, a commercial district with hotels, motels, retail and the world-famed Disneyland.
The Muzeo is located in the West Tower District and is the newest large-scale museum in Orange County. Pearson Park, named after the mayor of Anaheim during the days of Disneyland’s development, is home to many historic attractions including the Pearson Park Amphitheater. The Woelke-Stoffel House is a Victorian home built for the Stoeffel family, subsequently used as the headquarters of the Red Cross until 1993. It’s been recently refurbished as part of the Founder’s Park complex, which includes three historic buildings and is open to the public one Saturday a month.
There are 56,943 single-family homes in Anaheim and another 3,306 multi-family homes. Industrial buildings account for another 1,896 structures and there are 1,979 commercial developments.
There are three freeways that pass through Anaheim: The Santa Ana Freeway, Riverside Freeway, and Orange Freeway. Both the Eastern Transportation Corridor and the Costa Mesa Freeway travel through the city for short distances. There are two major regional railroad lines as well: The Union Pacific Railroad and BNSF Railway. The Orange County Transportation Authority oversees bus services in Anaheim, including both local and county routes that connect the city to Los Angeles.
There are seven public school districts that oversee Anaheim schools. In total, there are 84 public schools in the city, which include 46 elementary schools, 9 junior high schools, 14 high schools, and another 6 alternative schools. There are a number of private schools as well, including Servite High School, Acaciawood Prep Academy, and Fairmont Prep Academy. There are also three private universities in the city.
Residents and visitors to Anaheim have access to more than a dozen hospitals and medical facilities within the area. The top-rated option is Western Medical Center Anaheim, which has 188 beds and an average of 15,000 people coming through the emergency room each year. Around 4,000 surgeries – both inpatient and outpatient – are performed yearly.
In 2015, FBI statistics showed that there were 1,271 reported violent crimes and 10,038 reported property crimes in Anaheim. Both statistics are below average for both California and the country as a whole. Emergency services are provided by the Anaheim Police Department, Care Ambulance Service and the Anaheim Fire Department. Disneyland has its own fire department and paramedic services.
There are a wealth of shopping options in Anaheim, including large retail centers in the Downtown Disney shopping area. The Anaheim Plaza has more than 340,000 square feet of retail space, while the Anaheim Garden Walk lifestyle center has 440,000 square feet of dining, entertainment, and retail options. Sports fans can enjoy a game of professional baseball at the Angel Stadium of Anaheim, or visit the Honda Center to see the Anaheim Ducks. Theme park fans are likely to visit Disneyland, Disney California Adventure Park, or Flightdeck Flight Simulation Center. Golf enthusiasts are likely to head out to the greens of Anaheim Hills Golf Course and Dad Miller Golf Course.
