Fresno City Guide

Fresno is the economic hub not just of Fresno County but of the entire San Joaquin Valley. A significant percentage of jobs here are provided by large-scale agriculture, Sony Music Distribution, and Valley Yellow Pages. Located in the center of California, it’s just an hour or two from some of the best things the Golden State has to offer, including Yosemite National Park, Sequoia National Park, and Kings Canyon National Park. With a long list of cultural institutions, top notch restaurants, and highly rated schools, it’s no wonder this is a growing city.

Architecture and landmarks

Fresno neighborhoods include the downtown’s Fulton Street, the first financial and commercial district in the city. In 1964 it was converted to one of the first pedestrian malls in the country. Renamed the Fulton Mall, today the pedestrian mall has some of the best examples of public art in the country, including a bronze casting by world-famous artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The Fulton Mall corridor is also home to the largest collection of historic buildings in Fresno.

Sunnyside is seeing a lot of new home development, the Tower District is centered around the historic Tower Theater, and the Huntington Boulevard neighborhood is home to a number of large, stately homes built at the turn of the 20th century. The Van Ness Extension has some of the most expensive and prestigious homes in the city, and West Side is one of Fresno’s oldest neighborhoods.
