The Upper West Side would not exist without public transportation. The IRT stops along Broadway and the IND Eighth Avenue Line collects passengers along Central Park West. The 1 local train and the 2 and 3 express trains all service the Upper West Side via Broadway and the A, B, C and D trains operate under Central Park West. Five different bus routes traverse the Upper West Side from north to south and crosstown routes are available at the north and south ends of Central Park.

Schools

While no middle schools are zoned in the neighborhood, residents have about a dozen private and public school options. The Julliard School, the nation's first music academy, moved to Broadway at 65th Street in its fifth year in 1910 and has been there ever since. Columbia University is just to the north and some in the real estate community consider its campus in Morningside Heights to be part of the Upper West Side proper.
