Building Description

The 19-story Martin Lande House at 137-47 45 Avenue in Flushing was built in 1970 as residences for Holocaust survivors. It was the second of six such shelters bankrolled by Selfhelp Community Services that had been aiding refugees from Nazi Germany settle in the United States. Designed by Gruzen & Partners, the brick tower features 290 apartments, some with balconies, and gated parking. The Benjamin Rosenthal-Prince Street Senior Center is also found here.

The Queens location of 137-47 45 Avenue is steps from Kissena Corridor Park, with the Queens Botanical Garden also within walking distance. Martin Lande House is also convenient to shopping and dining on Kissena Boulevard, and there is abundant bus service in all directions. The Long Island Rail Road is less than half a mile away, while the closest subway station connects to the 7 train at Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue. Martin Lande House is located in School District 25, and zoned for P.S. 24, J.H.S. 237, and John Browne High School.
