Building Description

Originally known as the Vanderbilt YMCA, 236 East 47th Street once housed workers building Cornelius Vanderbilt's New York Central railroad. In the 1980s, Magma Equities and the Hakiman Organization purchased air rights above the YMCA and Liebman Associates designed a 40-story tower that blended with the original Neo-Georgian design of the historic rooming house. Completed in 1989, the property was renamed The Club at Turtle Bay, and featured 173 units.

Residents benefit from discount memberships at the Vanderbilt YMCA, featuring swimming pools, spas, weight rooms and gyms. The Club at Turtle Bay also has its own pool, health club, a Sky Lounge, and rooftop terrace with 360-degree views. The building is pet friendly and has fulltime doorman service. 236 East 47th Street is convenient to the United Nations, and public transportation is a quarter-mile away at Grand Central Terminal.
