Building Description
The son of Austrian immigrants and Lower East Side shop owners, Bernard Spitzer became one of New York's star developers. The Corinthian, a Spitzer project, was the city's largest apartment building when constructed in 1988. A decade earlier, Spitzer developed 800 5 Avenue at the northeast corner of 61st Street overlooking Central Park. Ulrich Franzen & Associates were the lead architects on the 33-story, yellow brick tower. The lower levels house commercial space, and 208 apartments are located over this. Curved balconies overlook the park and a private courtyard graces the rear of the building.
