Building Description
Covering 30 acres in East Flatbush, Vanderveer Estates was developed in 1950 on the former site of the Flatbush Water Works. Most of the 2,500 apartments in the 59 mid-rise brick towers were leased to the families of returning World War II veterans. Among its most noted residents was Barbra Streisand, who grew up here. Currently known as Flatbush Gardens, 1402 Brooklyn Avenue has gone through multiple ownerships and renovation projects through the decades, with units ranging from studios to two-bedroom layouts of 800 square feet.
