Building Description
Forming a U shape on the west side of Madison Avenue, the three Beaux Arts apartment buildings were built in the early 20th century. Known as Villa Hermosa, the brick buildings are ornately decorated with stone window surrounds, although urban renewal efforts have changed the original street level along Madison Avenue with modernized storefronts. Part of Villa Hermosa, 1 E 107 Street was built in 1920 and features 272 apartments in one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts.
Federal Housing and Urban Development financing at 21 E 107 Street began in 1980 and the Section 8 vouchers will continue until 2024. Villa Hermosa is close to neighborhood shops and services, and residents can easily reach uptown, downtown, and crosstown Manhattan buses, including the M1, M2, M3 and M4 lines, just steps away. It's also an easy walk to the 6 train on the Lexington Avenue subway line, and the 2 and 3 trains at the Central Park North subway station.
