Building Description

The New York City Housing Authority targeted the Sheepshead Bay area of Brooklyn for a public housing development in 1950. Two complexes were eventually built on either side of 2323 Batchelder Street - the Sheepshead Bay Houses to the west and the Nostrand Houses to the east. Together, the two developments comprise 2,154 apartments across 34 six-story brick buildings. The park-like grounds are landscaped with lawns, fenced-in sitting areas, and wide walkways shaded by mature trees. Marine Park and its walking trails, ballfields, and the Salt Marsh Nature Center are nearby.

Neighborhood markets and services ring 2323 Batchelder Street. The Sheepshead Bay High School is across the street. Other public schools include I.S. 14, Kingsborough Early College, P.S. 194, and The Brooklyn School of Inquiry.
