Building Description

The clean lines of the white brick and glass condominium tower at 450 East 83rd Street epitomize the style of architect Perkmans Eastman. Philip Koehler held the reins for the interior design, working with developer Jules Demchick to instill an artistic vibe at the 27-story condominium tower known as Cielo. Betsy Eby was commissioned to decorate the expansive lobby with artwork, and a pricey, 77-foot wide trompe l'oeil mural was painted on the 83rd street elevation by Richard Haas.

Cielo, completed in 2006, soars to 307 feet and offers views across its Yorkville neighborhood. The 128 units feature ceilings at least 10 feet high, and home owners receive free memberships to the Whitney Museum of American Art. Other amenities include separate parking rooms for bicycles and strollers, a health and fitness center, and a children's playroom. The superintendent lives on site and the property at 450 East 83rd Street is serviced full-time by a doorman. There is a 44-car on-site parking garage, and the new Second Avenue subway has brought public transportation within easy reach of the Cielo.
