Building Description

Designated a private co-op in 2015, Southbridge Towers was completed in 1971 just south of the Brooklyn Bridge and straddling the Civic and Financial Districts. The change to a private co-op was authorized as a direct result of the Mitchell-Lama Housing Program, which was passed to give middle-income residents more affordable housing options.

The property consists of four 27-story towers along with five smaller buildings, totaling 1,641 apartments and 12 commercial units and encompassing 358,000 sq ft. Its residences are grouped by 1, 2, and 3-bedroom apartments, along with studio apartments. In addition to its proximity to an easy exit point out of Manhattan, Southbridge is located quite literally across the street from the New York-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital and is a two-block walk from the Fulton Street Station. Spruce Street School is less than a quarter-mile from Southbridge Towers, with PS 234 a little more than half a mile away.
