Building Description
A Brooklyn high-rise neighborhood began in Flushing at 42-49 Colden Street in 1962 and by 1965 there were six residential towers. The first four were 15-story brick apartment buildings known as the Carlyle and the final two ? named Skyline ? were ten and eleven stories taller. All six were the handiwork of architects Samuel Paul and Seymour Jarmul. The firm specialized in multi-family complexes such as this one, and Paul is said to have designed over 140,000 residential units in his career. 42-49 Colden Street is one of the original 15-story brick structures, and was built in 1962. It features 284 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments and 9,600 square feet of garage space.
Located in Downtown Flushing, 42-49 Colden Street is convenient to neighborhood markets, shops, and restaurants. Queens Botanical Garden and Kissena Corridor Park are within easy walking distance, and Queens borough buses stop inside the complex. The Long Island Rail Road and the Flushing Main Street station for the 7 train are both less than half a mile away. 42-49 Colden Street is located in School District 25, and zoned for P.S. 24, J.H.S. 237, and John Browne High School.
