Building Description

One World Trade Center, which is also known as Freedom Tower, One WTC, 1 WTC, and 1 World Trade Center, is located in the Financial District, Manhattan, and as of 2016 was the fourth-tallest building in the world and the tallest building located in the Western Hemisphere. Designed by architect David Childs, the building is 1,776 feet high, which is a deliberate number that mirrors the year the Declaration of Independence was signed. The building officially opened at the end of 2014 when its first tenant, Conde Nast, moved into 24 of its 94 floors.

Though the tower is technically 104 floors high, there are only 94 usable floors. The building is used for both offices and retail establishments and is less than 1000 feet from three subway lines. The area around the building is occupied by homes, luxury shops, technology firms, restaurants, and other office buildings as well as the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
