Building Description
Paul Tishman, whose family helmed major New York City construction projects since 1898, developed the 38-acre Ravenswood Houses at 35-06 21 Street in 1951. The 31 six- and seven-story brick buildings total 2,167 apartments, making the Queens development one of the largest in the New York City Housing Authority's portfolio.
In recent years the 38-acre property underwent a $6 million renovation process that brought new walkways, fences, steps and a waste compacting system. The Ravenswood Houses Playground with its sports courts, ballfields, and ice skating area received updated play equipment and a safety surface. 35-06 21 Street is convenient to Long Island City schools such as P.S. 111, I.S. 204 and Long Island City High School. The N, Q and W trains can be boarded within minutes at the 36 Avenue Washington Avenue subway station for a quick ride into Manhattan, while the Q66 and Q69 buses run right past the property.
