Building Description
Citicorp Center, located in Central Midtown, Manhattan, and also known as Citigroup Center and 601 Lexington Avenue, is an office tower that was built in 1977. As of 2016 it was one of the ten tallest skyscrapers in NYC and is home to more than 1 million square feet of office space that spans 59 floors. It is one of the most distinctive buildings in Manhattan, thanks in part to its 45-degree-angled top and unique stilt base.
The 45-degree top is the result of the architect's original goal to add solar panels to the roof but due to the angle, the sun doesn't directly hit it. One of the most distinctive features of the building is its double-deck elevators in which one elevator goes to even floors and the other stops only on odd floors. There are 5 subway lines within 1,000 feet of Citicorp Center and workers can fill their lunch breaks with a little of everything from the retail tenants, who include the famous Houston's restaurant, Starbucks, and Barnes & Noble.
