Building Description

The Scholastic Building holds the distinction of being the first new building ever constructed in the historic district of SoHo-Cast Iron. Like its surrounding neighbors, the commercial building features cast iron as an integral part of its build, along with steel, terra-cotta, and stone. Paying even more tribute to its roots, the Scholastic Building was constructed in the same manner as the buildings from yesteryear, with elements and ornaments of its style ordered in parts, cast off-site, and then assembled on-site.

Built in 1999, it is a 10-story construction. The lobby was converted by Scholastic into 7,400 sq ft of retail space. The nearest subway station is two blocks northeast. Famous New York landmarks dot the surrounding area, including St. Patrick's Old Cathedral just three blocks east. Charming little eateries and upscale shopping are mere moments away by either foot or public transportation, with local proprietorships favored over big chains.
