Building Description
History meets modernity in the Henri Bendel Building at 712 Fifth Avenue in Central Midtown. At a towering 520,796 square feet, it stands as the 53rd-tallest building in the city, thanks to the 50-story tower added between 1988 and 1991. It is primarily home to fashion companies, including its namesake, the upscale Henri Bendel women's accessories brand. However, the base of the building was once the home of several New York landmarks, including the Rizzoli Bookstore Building and the Coty Perfumery. Efforts to keep those historic buildings intact resulted in keeping them as the pedestal base of the new tower. Access to the office and retail-zoned building is off Fifth Avenue at 56th Street.
When guests enter the limestone and granite building, they are greeted by a marble and granite lobby, as well as restored original Lalique glass windows. Security stations throughout the lobby are manned 24 hours a day, seven days per week, and 10 elevators transport guests to floors with 9-foot ceilings.
