Building Description
The Arverne Houses at 306 Beach 54 Street were built by the New York City Housing Authority in 1951. The seven six-story brick buildings are assembled around the Arverne Playground in Queens' Far Rockaway, just steps away from the ocean and Far Rockaway Beach. The 417 apartments at Arverne Houses have merged with the development across Beach Channel Road to form the Ocean Bay Apartments (Oceanside).
The Ocean Bay Apartments are part of School District 27 and two schools, P.S. 105 and the Goldie Maple School, adjoin the apartment complex. Also next door is the Queens Library at Arverne. Bus service is convenient with the Q22 and QM17 just steps away. Two stations for the Long Island Rail Road are within walking distance, while the A train can be boarded less than a quarter mile away at Beach 59th and Rockaway Freeway.
