Texas, home to sprawling ranches and towering high-rises, is a land of immense diversity when it comes to the housing market. Whether you’re looking for a secluded ranch, luxury high-rise condo or a McMansion, the sizzling Texas housing market has it all. Probably supersized to boot. Texas has some of the most generous home sizes in the nation, with Austin rocking the third largest average home size at 2,068 square feet. Building trends over the last 100 years doubled the average Dallas and San Antonio home and builders seem inclined to continue supersizing Texas pads.

2016 was a banner year for the Lone Star State’s residential market, as Houston, where downturns in the energy sector have taken their toll, saw a 5 percent increase in sales prices.

The luxury residential market segment is also going strong in Texas, despite sales prices remaining unchanged – or even diminished. According to the Texas Association of Realtors, sales numbers increased in the first eight months of 2016 in three out of the four biggest metros. Midland was the Texas hotspot for swanky pads – sales jumped 166.7 percent and the median price ticked up 13.8 percent year-over-year. When it comes to the most expensive luxury market, Dallas and Austin are, unsurprisingly, battling it out.  While Austin has the highest per square foot prices – $345 –, Dallas nabs the highest average price title at $1,400,000.

But even a $1,400,000 price tag seems like small change when compared to the crème de la crème of Texas real estate offerings. Ranging in price from $18 million to $68 million, the priciest homes on the Texas market right now prove the old saying that everything is bigger in Texas.
