Weekly chart: Top 10 Manhattan neighborhoods by office space

BY Roxana Baiceanu | Jun 8, 2012

It’s Manhattan, it’s morning, and it’s time to go to the office. In case you were wondering what neighborhoods devote  the largest total areas of office space to the working crowd in Manhattan, here is our weekly chart to consider:

There’s no doubt about number 1 —  Midtown Manhattan, New York’s largest commercial district and the world’s busiest. Its office space amounts to almost 160,000,000 sqft, and with the office hubs of 338 5 Ave and 206 W 34 St spreading over approximately 2,500,000 sqft each, this won’t surprise anyone. Featuring a rather old stock of buildings, the neighborhood, especially its East part, might soon see some rezoning activity from the city in an attempt to attract more property owners and developers.

Following, but with much reduced numbers, are  the Financial District (51,666,263 sqft) and East Midtown (43,315,087 sqft).
