Woodside Neighborhood Guide

Woodside is a neighborhood with a rich history. Known as a place where you can enjoy a diverse range of food and drinks, there are cultural pubs, restaurants, and shops in this neighborhood that attract people from all over the city. When you add in impressive access to NYC's public transportation system, and the many up-and-coming local shops and restaurants, it's easy to see why this is both a well-established community and one that's attracting new residents.

Architecture and landmarks

You're not likely to find many high rises in Woodside. In fact, the council has gone on record with the fact that one way they are attempting to maintain the character of this neighborhood is by focusing on only allowing new buildings that are slightly taller than established buildings. When viewing the housing stock, a person is more likely to find single- and multi-family homes than condos. There are quite a few, rather small pre-war buildings with rental units, as well as a few coops - a good example is Big Six Towers with just over 1,000 units - and homes here tend to be more spacious than those that can be found in other Queens neighborhoods. In addition to the residential areas, there are also parts of this neighborhood that are more urban - especially those located around bustling Roosevelt Avenue.

Transport

Residents of Woodside have a few transportation options to get to Manhattan. The 7 train runs express services during the morning and evening commutes, and the Long Island Railroad can get riders from Woodside to Penn Station in just ten minutes.
