Silicon Valley’s Top 10 Most Expensive Homes Sold in 2014

Supported by favorable demographics, limited inventory and a steady job growth, Silicon Valley remains one of the hottest housing markets in the Bay Area.

The revival of the tech sector has resulted in a strong residential sector with home prices in the heart of Silicon Valley reaching for the stars once more. According to a recent report released by PropertyShark, last year’s top 10 residential transactions in Santa Clara County consists of single-family homes with sale prices ranging from $8 million to $19 million.

Los Altos holds strongly to its reputation as one of the priciest housing markets in the country, with a median home price of about $2.2M. Palo Alto follows closely with a $2M median price recorded in 2014.

In Santa Clara County in 2014 the median price of single-family homes – the middle price of the entire range of sale prices – was $684K, up 9% from 2013 when the median price was $620K.

The Lowell House at 215 Lowell Avenue in Palo Alto topped last year’s residential sales charts with a $19.9M price tag. Located in one of the city’s most prestigious neighborhoods, Old Palo Alto, the landmark estate has a rich history that dates back almost 100 years. The property covers 7,222 square feet and has 17 rooms. Lot size is 36,694 square feet, according to PropertyShark data. Amenities include a swimming pool and spa, a sports court, and lots of carefully landscaped green space.

The runner-up is Maple Leaf Estate, a unique property nestling in the beautiful hills of Los Altos with incredible bay views. Located at 13115 Maple Leaf Court, the property was built in 1900 and is spread over 11 acres. Among the many perks, Maple Leaf Estate features state-of-the-art equestrian facilities, including a picturesque 13,000 square foot barn, caretaker quarters, riding ring, pastures, and more. It sold for $16.3M in 2014.

435 Coleridge, a superb property that mixes old-style charm with top-notch amenities, traded for $15M and occupies the 3rd position in our top 10 residential sales list. The 5-bedroom house has been designed for California-style indoor – outdoor living and enjoyment, according to listing agent Dreyfus Sotheby’s International Realty, and includes lush landscaping, outdoor dining areas, and a pool house.
